Thanksgiving. American holiday, all nations welcome

Just as above. This is a thread about Thanksgiving. So. What are you doing for yours? Do you have a tradition? I find it strange. I am 28 years old (On Thanksgiving this year). No kids. No boyfriends (or girlfriends in the same sense). It's just me and my mom right now. My sisters are doing family things with their husbands, respectively.

No, mom and I are eating cornish hens because a turkey is fucking huge and I'm not fond enough of eating them to want leftovers in the fridge for weeks. Also doing one of my favorites, green bean casserole with the french's fried onion bits baked on top, cornbread, and some other stuff too.

I invite everyone to discuss this. In the understanding of what and American Thanksgiving is, do you have regional customs that are similar? How do you feast?

I've also found that deep fried duck is amazing .

I do not celebrate it, the same as I do not celebrate any of the other holidays.

My parents are twenty minutes away, and I have no choice with them. I find Thanksgiving pointless, at best. It's also a stress on the stomach.

But, we will get together with family friends down the road (my father's friend and his wife and small daughters. I get on with the adults pretty well. Kids in general, not so much.). Turkey, green beans, mashpos, dessert pies (pumpkin and shoo fly) and gridiron football.

ETA: I kind of wish I had some jews as friends or family. It would be interesting to see what a Thanksgivukkah spread of food would look like.

Since my sister moved out here three years ago, we've made gambling our tradition. Two years ago, it was one of the local Indian casinos, last year, Vegas, and this year back at the local. We snack on sushi at my favorite sushi place, which happens to be in the casino, and then gamble until the line at the buffet dies down, then we really feast. It's perfect. No muss, no fuss, and I even still get to watch football!

Our national holidays are not family holidays. Their purpose is different, we have army parades and such during our national holidays.

Turkey Day is always at my sister in law's, which is convenient, as it's in town. Her kids travel up here to join in. I'm not really into holidays myself, but I like spending the day over there, and enjoy the food. I'm not much for turkey, but I do like her stuffing, orange rice, and of course, the pies - pumpkin for sure, and if I'm lucky she makes mincemeat. Come Xmas, we do it all over again, except she makes pernil instead of turkey and my kids will be there as well.
