I understand that you don't have to marry to pass on genes. What I'm saying is the creature with the genetic mutation would be the biological father/mother of all the offspring who would inherit the trait. So if the trait was to propagate it would have to be through incest, as in half brothers and half sisters.

You understand that literally every physical change in the entire history of humanity is a genetic mutation, right? Are you saying that, say, the propagation of red hair as a trait was solely through incest?

With regards to the OP, the problem is that Nye won't be engaged in a debate at all, he'll basically be talking to an audience in a room with a brick wall that has an inset speaker repeating the phrases "were you there?" and "historical science!" until Nye rage-headbutts his way through it.
