RE: Valentine Day's history has no Love History ??
Valentine's day is exactly one thing to me, and one thing only:

My birthday. Big Grin

Not to disparage your birthday by any means, but I always thought the prime purpose of Valentine's Day was to fill the candy/greeting card gap between Christmas and Easter.

Ivy ! Its in the literature. Again, I cannot verify the authenticity of this tale but its believed to be true.
Minimalist ! No doubt in what you're saying. It was first 'associated' with romantic love in High Middle Ages but what made it 'associate' ?? Tales of Valentinus , Valentine and St. Valentine though explain the behind-the scenes origin of this day but fail to relate romance with it.

Look ! Love is what bonds the human spirits till eternity. Love is what we live for. But I want to know why it came to be celebrated as a symbol of love ? If there's no such thing , then there should be no Valentine Day either .

Find a copy of Candida Moss' "The Myth of Persecution." She gives marvelous background about the growth of some of these martyr tales. She also explains why these tales were put forward.

Teaser: It has nothing to do with religion!

Don't celebrate it khan. You are not in love, so why bother.

The day is only for lovers.

Why do you want people to convince you to celebrate Valentines Day if you think it's crap? If you think it's crap, don't celebrate it. End of story.

NOPE.

Angry I hate this fugly day. Everything is pink and red... as if they go good together. Pink and red need to be far apart from each other! People buying candy. Everything is corny. Fuck Valentine's Day. Fuck it, fuck it, fuck it to bud lite hell.

But... kichi and Zen's big day is swell, and so is esquilax'. Happy day to you guys.
