DOMS (delayed onset muscle stiffness)
#11
RE: DOMS (delayed onset muscle stiffness)
Last time I experienced DOMS was when I had a WOD where the buy in was 500 air squats. Then 15 min AMRAP 165# Power Cleans (x10), Hand Stand Pushups (x10) and 400m run. Sucked butt.

So there is no remedy, time and suffering are required. But you can ease things with a good recoup protein, ZMA before you go to bed, and LOTS of water.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Hair of the dog. Don't skip leg day.

My first real leg day, I couldn't get up out off the floor (out of a beanbag) for a couple of days. Since then it's been much less intense (still don't fancy going for a run the day after though). Till I skipped a week, then it was hell all over again.

I've never found chest/arm DOMS to be nearly as intense as leg DOMS.
Nemo me impune lacessit.

I'm not so sure about this. I think DOMS means healing, and healing means repairing and growing muscle tissues. Why knock yourself down another notch before you get the full benefit of the last workout?

Might be broscience, but I think exercising with strong DOMS is overtraining.

There is absolutely no point in telling me I trained too hard now, 36 hours after the event. Why didn't you tell me at the time Angry

Seriously. For DOMS I recommend contrast shower (20 seconds hot, 30 seconds freezing cold, repeat). It's a cheats way of doing the ice bath used by elite athletes. Also drink lots and lots and lots and then drink some more. At least a pint of milk. And of course warm up, warm down, and stretch.

Anyone else got any tips for DOMS?

Like many things in life the answer is lots of coffee

Rest, recovery, good nutrition, post stretching after workouts, calcium/magnesium supplementation, and throwing an hour of yoga into the mix weekly, can be great.

Through a lot of trial and error, I don't suffer from DOMS as much anymore.

Contrast showers can help but I hate those! Oweee!
