For Brits (and anyone interested)
#11
RE: For Brits (and anyone interested)
Oddly enough, I (the dyed-in-the wool Socialist I am) got 50% Conservative, and 1/6 each of Labour, LibDem, and either Green or UKIP.
I think the results can be chalked up to several things:

* Many of the things that conservatives in the States find too revolutionary to put into use in America are seen as so fundamental to the UK that even the conservatives would find them to be no-brainers.
* There are some points I agree with on a lot of sides. Hell, even I had found the "Health Tourism" point of the motherfuckers in the BNP to be somewhat alluring, but the fact that you had to wholeheartedly agree with one party on each issue was a major problem.
* Somehow, the language in the platform made less sense to me when made peculiar to the UK. I backed the Conservative policy on crime after finding theirs talking about prison reform.

Political parties and representatives came up as there is no way to vote on every issue nor be present physically in most ways that would make direct democracy impossible.

That said, I wonder if with our advanced technology, we can start phasing in methods of selecting the right candidate through some algorithm that better matches what you want. This would be a nice step away from voting whole political parties.

Well, it's all going to be irrelevant soon. A friend and I have just purchased The United Kingdom on e-bay. For 10p. Free postage. ( Can anyone help with the legal bit of this, I mean obviously the UK ain't his/hers to sell, but it was 'up' for 10 days and no-one else wanted it...) Item number: 130377788642

Well apparently UKIP are Libertarians by claim only. A quick read of their manifesto resulted in a lot of disappointments. I'd much rather vote for the Conservatives than a bunch of people who seem less interested in actual liberty and freedom and more interested in persecuting muslims. If I wanted the latter, I'd vote BNP.
