Relationship with God?

Relationship with God?
I see this term tossed around a lot and you're full of shit.

Being religious at a young age, I resorted to having non verbal (1 way) conversations (or prayers) with God thinking he is listening to me, the more things went my way, the more I was convinced of his existence and my relationship with him. Even when things didn't go as planned I accepted that it was in gods plans.

After becoming an adult and a full blown atheist I now understand why I thought I had a relationship with god.

It's because as a theist you base your entire life on a "meant to be" "not meant to be" bases for years and train your mind to completely ignore the golden rule: correlation =! Causation

My life has changed for the better as an atheist and that's because life's events have got me here regardless of if I believe in something invented 2000 years ago.

You are afraid to break that imaginary relationship because you do not want things going wrong with your life, I wasn't afraid.

Nothing is meant to be. Everything is a random anomaly.

I never really bought that, even when I was a christian. How exactly do you have a personal relationship with someone you can only know about through second hand sources? Either reading a book, or listening to other people? How can so many people have a personal relationship with a guy, and have so many conflicting ideas about him? I know if I have a friend, I may get confused about what he's like, and what he wants, compared to a third peron. However we can both go to this friend, get the facts straight, and the debate is over. Right out of that person's mouth. We aren't going to spend the rest of our lives telling each other that they're going to be punished because they misinterpreted something, or one passage in his book overrides another passage.

Religion likes to twist the definition of words like relationship and love and mercy and justice, so it fits what they believe.

When I was a believer I thought I had a relationship with god. After I became atheist I made myself other imaginary friends which are a lot more fun to hang out with.

Personally I've never been a fan of the personal relationship bit. I don't see it in the Bible. I've never looked into the history of it, but it smacks of something the sixties hippies would have dreamed up.
