I'm curious, what's your agenda here?
The question makes no sense, in fact any attempt to answer it highlights the idiosyncrasy inherent in what one is prepared to accept as 'proof', for some it's butterflies in their stomach in church for others it's empirical evidence. Unless you state your prerequisites for proof you are setting anyone who attempts to answer this to fail. It's badly worded and obviously loaded. MM

"I think I use the term “radical” rather loosely, just for emphasis. If you describe yourself as “atheist,” some people will say, “Don’t you mean ‘agnostic’?” I have to reply that I really do mean atheist, I really do not believe that there is a god; in fact, I am convinced that there is not a god (a subtle difference). I see not a shred of evidence to suggest that there is one ... etc., etc. It’s easier to say that I am a radical atheist, just to signal that I really mean it, have thought about it a great deal, and that it’s an opinion I hold seriously." - Douglas Adams (and I echo the sentiment) RE: You can't prove to me you are an atheist.

Literally the title of your thread is "You can't prove to me you are an atheist." and your first post was "Take your best shot." Really? (June 28, 2014 at 12:47 pm)Knowledge of God Wrote: 2. That natural conclusion of skepticism and following "the evidence" you claim isn't something you need to prove to anyone else?Nope. But I'll defend it as a reasonable conclusion. Unlike you I didn't come to an atheist forum to prove everyone wrong. I came to talk to people who think like me. I am not a member of a Christian forum. If you want to have a debate, I'll debate you. But I don't need to prove a thing to you. (June 28, 2014 at 12:47 pm)Knowledge of God Wrote: 3. You're wrong.. again. If you'd like to point out where I was wrong the first time, I'd respond to that as well. If you'd like to point out a time where I actively sought out you to prove my atheism to you, please post that here. If you'd like to challenge my assertion that the natural conclusion of skepticism and following the evidence is atheism, that is a debate we can have. But it's going to take more than saying "you're wrong" to adequately state your point.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Tell you what. I'll commit an unforgiveable sin right now and tell the holy spirit to go fuck itself. Of course, I don't believe in a holy spirit so that's for your benefit right there.
If you're wondering why I am willing to go so far as to bar myself permanently from the prerequisites of your beliefs: The answer is, I've concluded the god of the bible is obviously a farce. The morality of your god is not only in question, but it's absolutely irreconcilable with certain unalienable rights that mankind has. Such as not being murdered. That's.. that's an important one. Let me elaborate: Hosea 13:16 - Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up. 1 Samuel 15:3 - Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass. Ezekiel 33:8 - When I say unto the wicked, O wicked [man], thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked [man] shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand. Romans 13:4 - For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to [execute] wrath upon him that doeth evil. Exodus 31:15 - Six days may work be done; but in the seventh [is] the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever doeth [any] work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death. Revelation 21:8 - But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Examples_of...ing_people
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!
Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite. Dead wrong. The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment. Quote:Some people deserve hell. I say again: No exceptions. Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it. As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong. Thanks for mentioning the unalienable rights of mankind, you made a good point. Do you mean human rights?

I call them existential rights, but yeah. I have rights because I exist and so do you. You and I are equal. You do not have a right to kill me, and I don't have a right to kill you.

You do not have a right to kill me, and I don't have a right to kill you. Well existential rights has clearly a philosophical connotation, but then again so do human rights, human rights theoretically come from Natural Law/Rights, not natural in a sense that it is related to natural phenomenons, but natural because we have them since we are born. Even if they are violated, they continue to exist, the state doesn't provide these rights, it just recognizes them Can I ask what right or rights do you consider more important abstractly, hierarchically speaking? For me it is the right to live since without it you don't exist, therefore no more rights for you. Next to it perhaps justice or freedom/liberty.

What I believe about the existence (or lack of) of a god is valuable information to myself only. No one can prove anything that goes on strictly in their mind. You can't prove that you love your mother. You can't prove that you're whatever religion you are. I assume that you love your mother and are whatever faith you say because 1) I can't see any reason that you would lie about it, and 2) if you are lying it makes no difference to me. God is a homicidal, genocidal prick; his son, if he existed, was a pathetic, judgemental embarrassment to his step-parents; and I deny the Holy Spirit. Now, would a theist say that? (Oh, and did I mention that I don't believe in any gods or related characters? That's what it says on my atheist membership card. Well; apart from Ceiling Cat, of course.)
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'
I think I'd put "pursuit of happiness" with "so long as it doesn't infringe on somebody elses' rights" somewhere. Otherwise I've never categorized them and I'm pretty ignorant of philosophy.. I know what's right and what's wrong, and I'm an atheist.
