"We" didn't.
Wyrd is the only one who did.

The contention was that the Earth got all of its water from comets a couple of billion years ago. Billions of years is a very long time yet the Earth still has water all over it despite the lack of recent comets bringing more water to the Earth. You would think that over billions of years of climate changes that the water would be all gone by now since it's not being replenished by water comets. I think that's amazing, don't you?

Since the water is still here those were indeed some magic comets. And here I was foolishly thinking that the Earth makes its own water from its internal processes. At this rate I'll probably start believing the Catholic priest's silly theory that the Big Bang created the Universe 13.7 billion years ago.

Where exactly does all this water that needs replenishing go wyrd?

Where would the water go, and what is the process that is causing it to 'leave'?

And if you read back through all my posts on this, you'll spot that I for one never applied the terms “all its water“ nor “couple of billion“ (inasmuch as detest the redefinition of that word anyway). But hey - it's your strawman, not mine. Knock yourself out. See how far you can kick it.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Maybe...

On a side note too...
I'm wondering, if the earth would lose water unless it 'created' it itself to replenish it, where is it getting the hydrogen and oxygen it would need to replenish what it uses up creating water?

The Earth has a molten core which creates the various elements and assorted liquids and gases.

Do you believe a gallon of water is eternal?

So the earth is creating the hydrogen and oxygen needed to create water?
The only processes I could see doing this would involve nuclear fusion and/or fission. Something our earth wouldn't be able to contain for very long, if at all, before vaporizing itself.

Assuming a consistent normal earth temperature and normal earth pressure, yes.
That doesn't mean if you leave a gallon of water sitting out for 10 million years that you will come back and find any water sitting in the container, but that gallon still is here.
Water flows, evaporates, condenses, and precipitates ad nauseam.
