Job forces me to attend church

RE: Job forces me to attend church
Here's what you can do: get a lawyer. If you don't have the money, go to your local ACLU or People for the Awmerican Way chapter and see if they have one to help pro bono. This seems like religious discrimination, but the fact that you are a caregiver provides an added twist (my son's mom did that fo a long time and you do have to tolerate the patients deisres and regard his or her well-being first). Anyway, get a lawyer and start squaring up for a knock-down drag-out -- it looks like one is coming your way.

And while you're at it, freshen up your resume and if possible get out before they become a negative reference.

Already in the works of it all Smile

Good luck with it all, bud. I couldn't quickly find a clear statement in IN law regarding your circumstances, but I did find this online complaint linkn which I'm sure will get you in touch with someone with more insight than anyone here: http://www.in.gov/icrc/complaint.htm. Hope all goes well with it.

They're very rude and uneducated people so I mind my own business while there but sometimes I just feel like I am being a total bitch towards people because I am pissed off about being there.

Easiest choice? Get another job.

Medium difficulty choice? Hire an attorney and discuss options, which may lead to...

Hard and potentially extremely expensive choice? Document and record everything, hire an attorney and sue their pants off. Some states permit one-party recording - only one of the parties - you - needs to know about the recording. Other states require both/all parties to be informed. If legal, you could record these conversations on your smart phone, for example.

In the link below, there is a section on religious discrimination. I would think the outcome in your case is less than clear.

Thanks for this.

Already working on getting another job for sure. At first I was just willing to deal with it but the more I deal with it, the more I am realizing it's unfair for me to be forced to do it. Especially when no one will assist me, even more specifically after I found someone that was willing to do it.

Good Luck mate, I've just been made redundant from the Mental Health sector and desperately trying to avoid getting sucked into care work.

If that is a weekly or daily occurrence, that's harassment & actionable in the US.

I definitely advise to look elsewhere for employment. Doing in home health care is a DRAG...obviously. lol

It is definitely weekly and every time we have meetings. It's so annoying. I just called my HR about it yesterday and she says she will address the situation and just hung up on me so clearly she doesn't see this to be a relative issue in her book.

I don't know that she has much of a case but talking to a lawyer won't hurt.

She mentioned she knows about illegal activity going on within the company. I suggest she read this article:

Government whistle blowers reap hefty rewards

I believe the law has been changed since that article but there is still lots of money to be had.

RE: Job forces me to attend church
This is, for sure, a tough situation.

Were it me, I would suck it up until you get a job doing something you like. Seems like this, of all the patients you've been with, is pretty optimal. Is there any chance that the real reason this is so bothersome is that you dislike your job? Seems like that could be spilling over.

Is this time being active and participating in something good for your patient? Take the church part out of it. Isn't that your job? Are they requiring you to participate in the rituals while you're at church?

TGA, that old cliche about never working a day in your life if you love what you do rings true most of the time. Sometimes work is shitty for everyone. But if it is shitty every day, it's probably time to start planning to make a change, no?
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great
