And to start,
I LOVED Memento, one of the best movies EVER.
Dark City, too, and no idea why it never achieved wide acclaim as a Sci-fi masterpiece.
Mysterious Skin, but a caution, the subject matter is intense and the film explores the results of horrific child abuse- Not a film for everyone
Gummo, flawed, but compellingly disturbed. Dirty bathwater scene is a classic
Re-Animator and Bride of Re-Animator, just good old fun with zombies
Dead Alive, yep, Peter Jackson made this. Lawnmower scene set a record for amount of fake blood used. 'Rebirth' scene is as sick as anything ever filmed.
Crash, Cronenberg's masterpiece. Gory car accidents as fetish for freaks, James Spader does something really nasty, just barely off camera in a Lincoln convertible similar to the one Kennedy was shot in. Twisted, sick, bizarre and believable, a superlative achievement in filmmaking Not to be confused with the racial attitude exploring Crash film, which I like too, but it's not suitable for this thread.
