Scottish independance?
#51
RE: Scottish independance?
So, should this Scotland decide to resume its independent existence, what form would it take?

Would it remain part of the commonwealth? Would it continue to recognize the monarch as head of state or would it become a republic? Would it keep the pound, adopt the euro or set up its own currency? Would it join the EU? Would it be part of NATO? Would it evict the British nuclear arsenal which currently is stationed exclusively in Scotland? Would it take a separate seat in the UN? Would Britain retain a permanent seat in the UNSC?

You are right and I was being flippant.

"I think I use the term “radical” rather loosely, just for emphasis. If you describe yourself as “atheist,” some people will say, “Don’t you mean ‘agnostic’?” I have to reply that I really do mean atheist, I really do not believe that there is a god; in fact, I am convinced that there is not a god (a subtle difference). I see not a shred of evidence to suggest that there is one ... etc., etc. It’s easier to say that I am a radical atheist, just to signal that I really mean it, have thought about it a great deal, and that it’s an opinion I hold seriously." - Douglas Adams (and I echo the sentiment)

They can sublet a basement office in the British Ambassy. It reduces the mover fee.

Similar to what it is now, except Scotland has control over itself instead of the partial control we currently have. Our government has been set up for years and we have always had our own laws.

Yes to the first 2. Although why we would continue to have an unelected head of state is beyond me.

Most likely we will end up with a deal to continue to use the pound temporarily untill our own currency (Australia, Ireland and others kept it before starting their own currency). I doubt we'd use the euro since noone here seems to want it.

Yes we have been told there is no reason why we couldnt, (the media trys to use this as a fear tactic)

I sure fucking hope so, its only a few miles away from me and none of us want it there.

This i don't know but it really wouldn't surprise me if we ended up with defence pacts with the Rest of the Uk.

I don't know how much of the current Scottish GDP (or equivalent) is trucked off to London, but as an independent country, there is considerable overhead that will need to be paid for.

If independence is more expensive than staying in the empire (such as it is), what will the (ahem, LOL) thrifty Scots do ??
