Un-United Kingdom

RE: Un-United Kingdom
The BBC is now (tentatively) calling the vote, with the NOs appearing to have a fairly insurmountable 200,000-vote lead and only eight counts to go.

Alas, the kingdom remains united and Britain remains great. How disappointing.

Spain must breath a sign of relief.

Same problem they faced in 1919-1922 when the country was called "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland".

Though it's looking unlikely that the referendum has passed.

The make-up of the United Kingdom will change, but it will still be the union of two kingdoms.
No, the current name of the UK is: The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It was previously The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. "Great Britain" in the name refers to the physical island, it doesn't refer to the old Kingdom of GB. They voted whether to leave the UK, not GB.

The WIN/Gallup End of Year Survey 2013 found the US was perceived to be the greatest threat to world peace by a huge margin, with 24% of respondents fearful of the US followed by: 8% for Pakistan, and 6% for China. This was followed by 5% each for: Afghanistan, Iran, Israel, North Korea. -LINK

If only we should be that lucky.

Unfortunately, it appears the wage of of the unconscionable land grab against Mexico during the Mexican war is to suffer forever the stigma and humiliation of having Texas.

Well, we appear to be saddled with our friends in the north. Should we be worried about the 45% who aren't happy about it?
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

From what I read, Texas would be OK with that!

Joking aside, I've never seen American politics so polarised, or so geographically split. Stranger things have happened. Just for God sake take any nukes out before you let them go OK?

I'd like England to get the opportunity to vote for independence from the rest of the UK and have our own English parliament.
