I find the idea that there are people cheering for the end of the world creepy and dangerous. Not all Christians are praying for the end, but for those of you who are PLEASE stay out of public office. That's not what we mean by swearing to protect.
Agreed.
If you've ever looked at the site Rapture Ready you see many posts which I can only describe as a death cult.

We're in agreement for once Stimbo.
I don't quite think we are, except incidentally. I was anticipating the end of rule by superstition in general and the Abrahamic religions in particular. What were you anticipating?
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

The end of the world.

Ok.
Why?

It's really very simple (principally because it has to be). Keep on predicting the end of the world every day. One day you'll be right - even if only on a purely personal level.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'
