As far as the beer is concerned, bud light might make you look like a tourist. Though if you're 23 and have short hair, people will probably assume you're US army
But life in Freiburg is quite dominated by its University and the several different colleges and the music school. It's basically full of students of all stripes, with a distinct liberal alternative bent.

Btw, are you still around end of june, july or even august? If so, you basically *have* to pack a cheap tent and go to one of the half dozen or so awesome metal festivals taking place all over germany and neighboring countries. Last but not least Wacken open air, which is usually sold out (literally and lately, also metaphorically, unfortunately), but there are charming smaller ones.

Well first off I hate bud light, tastes like water. Right now the game plan is to finish the eight German course and get myself a job, so with any luck I will be there all summer. That means, metal fests! Because one of the things I'm looking forward too is understanding the lyrics for a lot of the european metal bands.

But really,are there any good metal bands with german lyrics apart from the odd black metal combo? The big three of thrash (sodom, kreator, destruction) have english lyrics, and the old school stuff like Accept as well. Maybe some pagan bands?
Ok I'm not counting Rammstein as real metal, but learning german it's prolly worth it for their creepy poetry alone.

I've heard some pagan bands before. I've always been a big thrash guy too.

Maybe it's my typical prejudice against local stuff, but outside of thrash in which we rule, the scandinavian and finnish stuff seems so much better...
