Consider a new job? They make too many demands.
I know they do, but another job is not an option either, not with the way immigration (doesn't) work(s) in the US at the moment. And a new job here in Europe proved to be also not possible. Unfortunately I am in a very complicated and niche profession.
But I am open to suggestions :-)
Thanks to all for your kind words of welcome. And for the cookies of course!
I am still trying to figure out how to get an avatar in place. Could it be that that only works on a PC and not on a tablet or phone? I would like to show you guys my self portrait ;-)

Even the worst doctors aren't that dumb.
Beccs, meet Don "Someone has stand up to the experts!" Mcleroy
Ok, to be fair, he probably knows about the number of ribs. Then again, he's a dentist...

Can you imagine waking up from the anaesthetic and seeing that face staring down at you? I'd be checking that my underwear was still on the right way round.
Welcome, welcome, welcome. That's a triple welcome to the new guy; all three of him.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

He was one of the influential people who tried to ban evolution from/introduce creationism into US text books

He famously complained that someone should finally stand up to all these experts who actually know about the science and want it to be taught in schools and stuff.

Nice to be here.
I have been reading these fora for a while now, so high time I introduce myself.
Although I grew up in a protestant family and school, I have always been an atheist. I think I am missing the gene you need to believe :-) and I never thought it was a 'thing', until I moved to the US (North Carolina). Coming from the Netherlands, that was quite a shock. There are actually people who don't want to have anything to do with you just because you don't go to church. After trying to fit in for 12 years I have moved back to Europe, but it is starting to look like I am heading back there. So I may be in need of some moral support from some fellow heathens :-) at some point.
I won't bore you anymore at this point. Ask away if you want to know more......
Hoi !

"The greatest deception men suffer is from their own opinions" - Leonardo da Vinci
"I think I use the term “radical” rather loosely, just for emphasis. If you describe yourself as “atheist,” some people will say, “Don’t you mean ‘agnostic’?” I have to reply that I really do mean atheist, I really do not believe that there is a god; in fact, I am convinced that there is not a god (a subtle difference). I see not a shred of evidence to suggest that there is one ... etc., etc. It’s easier to say that I am a radical atheist, just to signal that I really mean it, have thought about it a great deal, and that it’s an opinion I hold seriously." - Douglas Adams (and I echo the sentiment)

When you get to know me a little more, you'll find that that's definitely not a disappointment.

You're right, it's only on the desktop mode.
Hope you stick around.

But he's a doctor, that's why I posted it as a reply to Beccs' optimistic statement
And he doesn't even claim that he is a scientist, quite the contrary - he thinks that ordinary God-fearing folk like him should try to limit the influence of scientists on education. Hence the quote...
The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
