I waited tables for years, some of them in Tennessee. I got a fuck ton of chick tracts, fake bills with bible verses, prayers written out on napkins... people who left that type of thing rarely left a cash tip. Really? They thought THAT would convert me?

I am so appalled by people leaving tracts instead of tips. Those must be the most unpleasant and self righteous hypocrites out there.

During my time as a Christian, I met some people who weren't exactly honest with others about their attempts to evangelize them. Their reasoning was that winning someone over to Christ was more important then anything else so they didn't mind being a little bit dishonest. To be fair, I don't think that they always understood that they were being dishonest because they were unable to consider anything beyond making a convert.

In some Baptist churches that I attended, we were encouraged to be friendly to new comers because they might not know Jesus. When people tell me that their new church is friendly, I always get suspicious that this is just another sneaky tactic to win converts.

I used to work in a Mental Health Centre, certain of the local churches (mostly the Baptists) would try to infiltrate the place and recruit the service users. To this end they would try and turn every conversation into a religious debate, despite that being explicitly against the regulations. Leaflets would be left around the centre and baptist events/groups promoted. Then we got the bullying as the service users were told their mental health problems were due to demonic possession and they had to stop taking their prescribed medication, go to the baptist church and have some half-wit try to exorcise them, for a fee...

Living Waters puts out the tracts that look like money. Both Kirk Cameron and Ray Comfort are associated with the group which tells you all you need to know about those tracts. I know that some people leave them as tips which is pretty disgusting.

Perhaps it is an urban legend but I used to hear about people dating a nonbeliever in the south just to convert someone.

I have heard about that sort of thing too with the dating, not sure if it's true either. But I could believe it.

You really can't call this stealth since we know who did it, but my wife has been the recipient of this unsolicited evangelism before. One day a girl at her work said to her, "Can I ask you why you don't attend a church?" to which my wife replied, "No, you can't." I got a good laugh from that. My wife is very private, especially about something as personal as religion. And that was that. Nothing else was mentioned on the subject.

Anyway, about three weeks later, a note was left in her chair with typical, weird, exceedingly creepy Christian exhortations and proclamations from the same girl. It contained gems such as, "The Lord spoke to my heart and told me to reach out to you," and "I don't know what you're going through, but God loves you so, so much." This letter rambled on for nearly two handwritten pages. My wife was pissed. I mean...pissed. What's worse is that this person didn't even work there anymore, but came into the office to leave that note anyway.

EDIT: As for the dating thing mentioned above, I have had a couple of girlfriends who tried to convert me. This wasn't the sole reason they were with me to begin with though (I guess.. :/ ). I got rid of 'em both. Nutters.

Let's see, which is most believable out of these options:

1) Virgin birth really happened
2) Mary went a straying and didn't want to own up
3) Inserted later from previous mythologies
4) Translation error

If this was multiple choice, which one would you exclude first as being the "ridiculous" answer to a simple question?
