Christians Unite
RE: Christians Unite
Starting here:

that whoever believes in Him shall not perish

I'm thinking it is obvious, isn't it, that if one were sincere about the 'believe' part, there would come along with it, virtually unbidden, but nevertheless, an irresistible compulsion to

WORSHIP JESUS CORRECTLY.

And how many Christers do we see doing that ?

Right off the bat, 50% get the Mark 10:11 thing WRONG. And that is just ONE verse.

And we know Christ is touchy about figs, anyone looked at Fig Newton sales figures lately ?????????

The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

I think Miles may be reversing the burden of proof here. It's not up to others to prove him wrong, it's his burden to show that his beliefs are correct.

Why god wants to do that is unclear. But he'll be punishing me later for my complete lack of choice.

No, I've never said that I am trying to convince you or anyone else. I also said that no one can be convinced but by the grace of God.

Belief in God isn't something one simply decides to do, or anything one person can inspire in another. It's self-righteous and presumptuous for anyone to think they can convince someone else of God's existence, or even that they themselves are capable of spreading the Gospel. While God uses men to plant the seeds and water the plants, only God can make them grow. (1 Corinthians 3:6-7)

You will be punished (and in fact, you have been and are currently being punished) not for your lack of choice, but because you don't follow His commandments.

You might say "you're wrong; I'm perfectly happy." I say you've never known true happiness, nor has anyone outside the body of Christ. The happiness found in the world is fake and temporary, a high that keeps you chasing the dragon and never truly fulfilled.

That's not to say that life in Christ is all peaches and cream; it certainly isn't, and anyone who claims such is a liar. Taking up the cross is always painful, but it is the only means of obtaining everlasting life, the only true life there is.

But it's not self-righteous or presumptuous to be so sure we're going to be punished? Or that we're not happy? Or that you're the only one with all the answers? Yeah: fuck off. This is bordering on preaching, and it's SO not cool.

I'm still loving that Christians can't even agree with each other in a thread called "Christians Unite".

That is unless one puts one's faith in a false Christ, that being Satan, the ruler of nominal Christendom (among other things).

Matthew 24:23-24
Then if anyone says to you, 'Behold, here is the Christ,' or 'There He is,' do not believe him. 24"For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect.

The best deceptions are subtle and involve bits of truth. Satan distorts the Truth and sells it under his own myriad brands (the sects of nominal Christendom in this case).

You're not wrong there.

Why is proof even part of the equation here? We're not conducting an experiment, we're talking theology.

But you're right to an extent. I do challenge anyone to prove me wrong, by the Scriptures, either Christian or otherwise. Outside the Scriptures is a futile argument, and really shouldn't apply to a discussion about a particular theology.

You've called me vile in no uncertain terms, and you even said you are done with me, so why bother arguing with me?

By my own theology, it is perfectly within reason to say that even those who think they are happy are not:

Revelation 3:17
You say, "I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing." But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.

And I don't speak in condemnation when I speak of punishment. Punishment is a good thing:

Revelation 3:19
Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline...

Hebrews 12:6
For the LORD disciplines those he loves, and he punishes each one he accepts as his child.

Isn't it ironic that you can't see how I am in agreement with you, yet you're using it as a bullet point anyway?

Oh, Miles, no. We are not in agreement with each other... at all. I am nothing like you, and I'm elated about it. You think rape victims deserve it, for fuck's sake, and yes: you are vile. I am actually scared that people like you exist in this world. I'm keeping an eye on threads that you are involved in because I will admit wholeheartedly that I want to catch you doing something bannable; I want to be the one to report you. I have a fantasy that once the report is made, quorum to ban is met within five minutes, and I get to be the one to swing the hammer. I hate to admit it, but you should feel special: you're my first fantasy as a mod.

You make it sound like I am out to get rape victims - that is simply not the case at all.

However, I think that is my cue to leave this forum. No one has received the word, therefore I shake the dust from my feet. Not that my purpose here was to preach, but something else entirely...

So congratulations, you have your wish.

If anyone would like a link to the "sect" that shares my beliefs, feel free to send me a private message. I will check those for the next couple of days.

Sounds great. Almost as great as your mass murder fantasies in the other thread. I'm sure, only clinical depression with suicidal tendencies rivals your theology.
