That seemed very clear to me, but people were still accusing him of it for some reason, so I figured I'd clarify. It's not my argument, it's not what I think happened, so I have no answer for your question. Ask Randy.

Yes, it's very convenient for you that you take the whole of the old testament as allegorical. Too much misogyny and absolutely disgusting morality for any of it to be literal. Too bad the new testament isn't really any better.

The funny thing is she changed her stance from the stories being allegorical to the stories just being fiction. She ran into the problem of having to explain what exactly the stories would be an allegory for, so she just decided to dismiss them all together. Even if you think god was using an allegory it doesn't dismiss the immoral message that the stories portray.

So....

The OT is optional, all good people go to heaven and morality isn't *that* objective?

Why do you need religion again, CL?

Lying for jesus seems something commended, given how some of them act.

Also, I meant commandement, poca, you grammar nazi, you  Dodgy

The point is lost Becca. It's the heat around here.

I hear the weekend will bring even more heat! Hang in there, LP!

I know what you meant... hence the stone "medals" Wink

Well, it's a good thing I don't blindly follow him, with that book as my holy text, eh?

Man, you draw the shittiest analogies I think I have ever read.

Is it bad that this morning I read the thread title as "What IS good, and how do we undermine it?"

Ask Freud.
You make people miserable and there's nothing they can do about it, just like god.

God has no place within these walls, just as facts have no place within organized religion.

Ultimately all the christians will always fall back on god and the bible, so I have a few questions.

How does god know what is good?

What would god's reference be?

Does god answer to a god?

Is god good because the cosmos inherently requires it?

Because he's God.

Him being God.

No, because he's God.

No, he's good because he's God.
My, this is remarkably easy. I can almost see the appeal...

If you honestly believe that the contention of that quote is "rape is good," then you are a bigger fool than even I'd taken you for.

So I want to hear you say it. I want to hear you actually assert your position regarding this quote: just say "I believe that Sam Harris is saying that he thinks rape is good, in the quote I supplied."

It's either that, or back down from your smug little bolded opening... Angel
