Not so long ago in this forum, there was criticism, a lot, from Europeans as we have gone trough what you are now in the past. All I have heard is whiny little bitches telling us that have decent (not perfect) public education.

We have elected for PM the right wing, but the left united got to form a government. Seems to be a contraption of sorts that require negotiation, but it has be working to regulate stuff. The left united got more votes than the right united. Still the GVT was forced to negotiate.

It saddens to me that the most armed country, the archetype of democracy falls so down the well.

I for one wouldn't vote trump, how it happened escapes my comprehension.

No, I have never had to go through what Ayaan did, or what LGBT go through, but so what? I am still aware of the undue suffering of others. Just because I haven't lived in a war torn area or lived in famine or had to fear crime on a daily basis does not make me "Sheltered".

Let me see if I can give a view from across the pond so you can see how it looks.

Imagine a group of people who were misused for a long time, say children abused by paedophiles.

Now imagine that there were statues across town, lots of them, that venerated the paedophiles because they were paedophiles. They've been there for a while and this is pissing off some people who were abused as children, the persistence of the statues seems to give some legitimacy to paedophilia and other non-abused children like to keep them around as a reminder that their great grand daddies were paedos and it makes them more likely to look at kids and think they are sexy.

Now what do you think?

They are historic and the people in them aren't actually abusing children on the statues, but everyone knows that that's why they are there.

I guess you did not make that clear. Ok, I agree. But moreso done out of hate. In the context of history or satire when not done out of hate, with the consent of those involved that is different. But in general I agree. It certainly would not be wise to go out into public and use that word in front of people you do not know. 

If you did not notice Thena was poking fun of A-Theist who stepped in it making assumptions, and I used the word Negro, while not the "n" word still. Thena and I were making fun of many not understanding why blacks get "uppity". I want blacks to be "uppity", because I don't think they owe whites any coddling of their insecurities. I support equality, not any bullshit back of the bus crap. 

Those statues at the time they were erected were to glorify those men as good and heros. I will never find owning another human being heroic or good.

CL, I think what you might not realize is that a lot of people who are racist don't consider themselves racist.  For instance, if I were to ask my dad today, 'hey, are you racist against African Americans?' his answer would be somewhere along the lines of, 'No, I'm not racist.  I just don't understand why so many black people are lazy, and would rather sell drugs and live off of welfare, than get a job."  Maybe that's all he saw through his tunnel vision growing up in a small, poverty-stricken village, with essentially zero opportunities for education beyond high school.  

Whatever the reason, his position is rooted in ignorance; in a baseless, demonstrably false stereotype.  As an adult he's thrown his lot in with a racist ideology, despite the fact that he doesn't necessarily "mean" it.  

What practical difference is there between an ignorant racist and a willfully ignorant racist?  From the standpoint of how these opinions affect our fellow humans and society at large, there is no difference.  The outcome is the same: perpetuation of racist attitudes through out the fabric of our culture.

Racism is what it is, whether or not an individual "means to be," or not.

I would agree with that. But saying black folks are lazy, etc, IS in and of itself a prejudice.

I otherwise wouldn't be so quick to label people racists.
