RE: The Atheist Forums Playlist
The new NIN album is out, boys and girls. It is a return to the high quality of the good ol' days, so go get it.

Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

When every other band was playing along to click tracks, Killing Joke played to their own time. I love how this track gets faster towards the end, you can feel the bass player pushing the band to the point where the drummer is struggling to hold onto the kick drum pattern.

Pure 80's cool...

Enjoy!

"I think I use the term “radical” rather loosely, just for emphasis. If you describe yourself as “atheist,” some people will say, “Don’t you mean ‘agnostic’?” I have to reply that I really do mean atheist, I really do not believe that there is a god; in fact, I am convinced that there is not a god (a subtle difference). I see not a shred of evidence to suggest that there is one ... etc., etc. It’s easier to say that I am a radical atheist, just to signal that I really mean it, have thought about it a great deal, and that it’s an opinion I hold seriously." - Douglas Adams (and I echo the sentiment)

Some of my favourite underground 80's electronica ...

If anyone knows of a Japanese electronic band from the 80's called Ipu Do (could be a misspelling), please let me know where I can get hold of their stuff because I lost my tape years ago and I can't find their music anywhere.

RE: The Atheist Forums Playlist
Someone aske recently in one of the forums if anyone felt a sadness at not having god in their life.

This made me think, I was brought up in the Church of England and as a child I was taught at C of E schools. I remember being quite a melancholy child, happiest in my own company (still partly true), but I didn't feel that lift until I started to question god.

I never really believed in god even as a child, I just assumed it was a conceit we were all in on. Anyway, I went looking back over some of my earlier work for this song, it struck me that the imagery in it is very religious, blood, bread, wine, etc. Listening to it in retrospect it sounds like a cathartic expression, like I was ridding myself of something.

I whipped up a quick video of borrowed images so I could post it. I'm much happier now, but I still have a fondness for this little piece of my teenage angst.
