And that humanocentric world view is responsible for nature attempting to shrug us off right now. It's not novel by any means, but it's the reason for the ongoing destruction of the world surrounding us. It's cutting the branch we're sitting on. We're part of this world. Nothing more, nothing less. This sense of entitlement is responsible for the hottest summer in recorded history, which goes back to the 18th century, with temperatures pushing 40 degrees celsius for the third time this season. So, excuse me, if I don't take that kindly to humans being special.
Not necessarily. Just because someone believes human life is more sacred than other life, doesn't mean we should treat other life badly. Other life is sacred as well, and should be treated with respect.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."
