I wonder if this will differ between men an women. I know I appreciate when a woman makes the effort to smell good with whatever fragrance, but I think I'm more concerned with her not smelling bad.

I think it's something that could tip the balance, it could make a mediocre looking girl be unacceptable. There's been times when a really nice smell has made an already good looking girl seem ridiculously irresistible.
But I can't even remember ever meeting a good looking girl who smelled bad, I don't think it would bother me as long as it was a temporary thing and not overwhelming.
It would be difficult to be turned on in the presence of raw sewage or something like that no matter where the smell is coming from.
