My husband owned a Glock until we had toddlers, then he sold it. We've since bought a BB Gun for the girls to play with.
I don't think whether you own a gun is a moral question. The question is whether you use it morally, and whether you store it safely.
As to whether they should be legal generally, there is a fair amount of the U.S. (geographically not population wise) where wildlife almost demands a gun, and deer the population is exploding so hunting rifles are a very good thing. But there is no real city need for a gun, and I don't see why small handguns should be necessary or legal.
