For waking up you could try the Indian trick. Drink a lot of water before going to bed. Let me know if you sleep through peeing the bed.
Better living through chemistry. I take 75 mg if diphenhydramine (Benadryl, benefit of the anticholinergic side effect) at around 8 PM each night. Kicks in around 9 to 10 depending on whats going on. Sometimes groggy in the AM, worst side effect for me in AM dry mouth. Not all people can tolerate that dose. With any OTC start low and work up. Most OTC sleep aids contain doxylamine or diphenhydramine. Both antihistamines, use which every works best for you.
There also natural sleep aids you can try (cough, cough, god what am I saying, threw up in mouth). They may or may not work.
See the Dr. There are oldies that work and new stuff that works. Addiction potential needs to be addressed. May take awhile to find one that works for you. Some have side effects that people find intolerable.
A fairly complete rx list can be found here: http://www.rxlist.com/sleep_disorder_med...dition.htm
There is a new one with a unique MOA not on the other list: http://www.rxlist.com/belsomra-drug.htm
Good luck. Sweet dreams!
