EU language wars

There have been fights in the EU where they want their language to be important in the EU single Patent law Which what language does EU recognise(and translating costs are high)

It goes like this:

Commission propose single patent in English
France and Germany wants their language in
France and Germany get their language in
Italy and Spain doesn't want German and French in, either you put everything or you put English only
Germany and France get into Fisticuffs with Italy and Spain
Belgium proposes English only now, German and French later when machines are good to translate, with having a discussion about it, when the machines are good to translate
Italy Concedes
Spain Still goes at fisticuffs wanting it's Spanish in

The different languages in the EU have always been a source of problems They require a shitload of translators, as there are more than one hundred ways of translation needed, and that costs way too much money.

The pragmatic solution would be to use English but that would be unfair to every non English speaking countries because it would create a cultural influence/domination (and it would be the same with French, Spanish or German).
A good solution would be to choose a language not affiliated with any country or culture and whose sole purpose would be to make everyone understand each other (such as Esperanto). But unfortunately the EU has always been reluctant to try that solution.
