It infuriates me when people talk about the expense of paying taxes to keep us on life support, so motorcyclists should be required by law to wear helmets. That said, I always ride in full, armored leathers, steeltoed boots, gloves, and helmet. Why? Because I like my skin.
We have states that do and that don't have helmet laws. Can anyone point me to the wards overflowing with bikers on life support, in the latter group of states? Anyone?
It's an asshole argument. "I don't want to pay for __(insert imaginary outcome here)__ therefore I will impose this odious government intrusion onto you, since you cannot make decisions for yourself and need a nanny".
It is interesting to note, here, how many rights stem from the fundamental principle of a right to bodily integrity and choice. Once you accept that the government can control your body and your personal decisions...
Like the right to life?
Exactly the opposite of that, actually. The right to not tell me I must use my body to create life.
A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost
I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.
