I think online sites are tailor-made for everyone actually. Right from the start, you've got a pool that is "looking". Instead of hitting on random people, you already have saved so much time.
Then, it's just a matter of winnowing, selling yourself and hopefully finding the right person. In my own hetero-hunting experience, it sped up the process tremendously and now 7 years later, we're still going strong. She couldn't leave me if she tried! The restraints and window bars ensure that.
Of course, it doesn't hurt to be a silver-tongued devil and really, really, really, ridiculously good looking.
