I've been to a few services, and several social gatherings. Obviously, it is a church, but my experiences with them have been uniformly pleasant. Being upfront about the ath/ag issue would be advised. I don't mean to belittle their beliefs, but the ones I've encountered seemed more or equally focused on gay issues than salvation. Keep in mind most of the attendees at MCC have been drummed out of whatever church they grew up in, so there will be camaraderie and understanding even for atheists and agnostics that attend, that being a common result of other churches rejective policies.
A few friends of mine are big on gay nudist retreats. I'm not, but it's an overlooked avenue for meeting people.
Anyone with a need for 12 Stepping, it's very rare for a gay 12 Step group to not have social activities. If one is not a 12 Stepper and attends any of their social activities, be advised dating a 12 Stepper isn't for every one.
Craigslist has a 'platonic' section in most large cities, I haven't tried that category, and I can imagine results would be highly variable.
