The cynical side of me wonders how many of them were dupes and how many knew perfectly well that they were just rebranding their jackbooted ways that was out in the open under Bush. After being so discredited, the far right needed to wear a new guise. So they slapped a tricorner hat and powdered wig on it and pretended their racism, unquestioning authoritarianism and shilling for the corporations was in fact some sort of sentimental rediscovery of our constitutional values, as if they hadn't been using the constitution as toilet paper for the previous eight years.
