Do they? Reality paints a different picture. May sound callous, but ultimately they want what's best for their group. I have no patience for people like Blondie. She has expressed repeatedly how little she cares for people outside her circle. How she looks down on them and calls them all kinds of names.
No, I have no patience for people like this in real life and I certainly don't have it here. That's a bigot if there ever was one and I don't take upbringing and -for lack of a better word - education, as an excuse.
Yeah - wanting what's best for their group. Once again that's a matter of bigotry. We're not born bigoted but we're often brought up that way. At our very core I think us humans are compassionate and empathetic - apart from sociopaths and psychopaths and the like - and it is social bigotry that gets in the way.
I find it hard to have patience and I get frustrated too. But I try.
Yes I agree that upbringing and miseducation are not an excuse - but I do consider them an explanation. I'm not saying it's an excuse at all - once again, we can be against fatalism and wish to stand against matters like bigotry and cruel behaviors without having to feel any less compassion or empathy for those people as individuals with misguided motives. It is possible and the two aren't mutually exclusive
Outside of flight and fight situations of survival and fighting for the survival of our loved ones and family perhaps - I think it's always possible to be against someone but still not hate them and still be capable of feeling some compassion towards them. I strive to choose the option of compassion whenever it is available - without condoning any bigoted behavior.
