I've changed my mind about Wikileaks, after reading and seeing a bunch of stuff this week.
Oh,I still think Assange is an arrogant, irresponsible ,naricssistic arsehole. BUT as far as I've been able to find out,he has broken no laws,at least not Australian or British laws.. I do not support him, but neither will I pillory him.
I started to change my mind when I saw the hysterical and vicious response of the US political right. I mean, calling for the guy's assassination! Geez Louise.(that's an offence in this country)
THEN our Prime Minister, Lady MacBeth, stated publicly that Assange's actions were illegal. She was immediately challenged from all sides to cite the law(s) Assange has broken. She did not do so. Within a few hours, our Attorney General appeared on TV in damage control. He announced the Federal Police are to mount an investigation to see if Assange may have broken any laws. The investigation is expected to take up to a year.IE it's a face saving exercise. The issue is expected to be a paragraph on page 37 within a year.
Going after Assange has been a huge tactical error. It has made him a martyr, and guaranteed his leaks will not only survive but go viral. Companies such as Paypal and Amazon have pissed off a LOT of people. A stupid move for any company which does its business on line.
