I was walking back from a lecture the other day and took a different route going past a building with the word 'Chaplaincy' written onto it. Looking into a bit, my University hires just that for spiritual guidance as well as support etc. Now, I wouldn't have a problem with this and I'm not forced to use it or anything, but part of my tuition fee pays for it. Effectively I am in part paying for a service I highly disagree with and would never use.
How would others react to that? Am I over reacting, just over thinking it? Anyone else encountered this?
J think for me I would be a little pissed I'm paying for it, but you have to remember that some chaplains do good work. If your in the us, you have to remember you have a lot of young students that come from a religious background away from their parents for the first time, so many may feel far comfortable going to a chaplain then a counselor. So as long as the chaplain is willing to provide solid guidance and emotional support and isn't a Jesus not, I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing as long as it is kept private.
