If I knew I was about to die, and I was convinced there was some kind of postmortem judgement, why would I not feel free to rape and kill as many people as I could before the last knockings? All 'sins' are equal after all. If I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't, isn't it better to actually do it anyway and go for the jackpot?
