My position is just that nothing is achieved without government intervention.
Charities can only do so much and are at the whim of donators. Look at the ALS ice bucket challenge that raised millions for a niche illness that will probably never get that kind of money again. It's inconsistent and missdirected. There are also many charities raising money for the same thing it is wasteful.
Look at Britain in the Victorian era, there were any number of do gooders running charities and helping less able people but nothing really changed until the government became involved. If something needs doing it needs doing by a properly run government body, not some well wisher no matter how well intentioned.
You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid.
