As for gay adoption, it seems to me that society in general doesn't dictate in matters like adoption unless the harm to the child is almost inevitable. Any statistical evidence to suggest this for gay adoption is pretty weak, and there's probably stronger evidence for, say, people with an income below £17,000 being bad parents, but noone's suggesting that we stop them from adopting.
