Okay, well if we assume things are indeed already changing for the better, then NOW the goal is to try and encourage things so as they improve even MORE.
Just as just because something can't be perfect it doesn't mean we shouldn't bother we are improving it...Likewise: Just because things are already improving doesn't mean we shouldn't try and make the rate and extent that things improve increase.
I like to draw an analogy with Racism in that.... on the one hand: If ethnic minorities are to be realistic they should expect to receive some Racism in this crappy world that we live. But on the other hand: They should, from an idealistic perspective, expect better and expect equality and equal treatment because of course, all races should be treated equally.
