-I've wondered about this for awhile, I'll share. Had the umma not been subjected to a resounding defeat and subsequent destruction of their civilization, they may not have had to come to terms with history, interrupted - as it were. Might they have continued their progressive trend and saved medieval europe (and the modern middle east) from what we now see to be a hellish and prolonged collapse?
You might be giving the muslims too much credit. It was the Jewish collaborators who were the brains behind the brawn, especially in Spain. That's why Ferdinand & Isabella kick both groups out.
