That probably goes with the territory of believing that an all-powerful Supreme God has designated certain individuals as special and favored. Being convinced that they'll will be rubbing elbows with the Almighty in the afterlife, while the rest of the riffraff is bound for the torment, may make it easier for some to view themselves as more worthy of distinction in this life as well.
