The only way this makes any sense is if you treat each incident as an isolated event without acknowledging common contributing factors that are open to mitigating solutions. That's the real tragedy understanding that continued apathy will only result in business as usual.
I think that the political exploitation of these tragedies is a total distraction from the actual cause of crime in the United States. They aren't a significant part of the overall murder rate, but that almost never gets talked about. I think the people who yell about this and ignore violent crime else where are the ones really being apathetic.
Of course if you did talk about the overall murder rate, you'd have to mention that it is very close to historic lows.
