Given the barbaric things people used to regularly do to each other before the Enlightenment, I'd say atheism. Religion never did anything about slavery until secular thinkers came up with principles like liberty and individual rights. All Jesus could even say was "be a good slave." That's because what matters in the spiritual worldview isn't worldly. It doesn't matter whether one is a slave or a king, what matters is how God judges them in the afterlife. One might call that a limited sort of equality, but it certainly isn't a valuation of life. If superstition still dominated, you'd still see people killing and torturing each other with abandon. The other realm makes it all add up somehow.
