You asked me for my opinion, not to represent your own.  I gave my opinion, not yours.  Cmon now.  I don't think that boredom with your schoolbooks now or later causes a descent into drugs.  That would be called a correlation.  Countless students have been bored and not become meth addicts.

Here's what I wrote:

The odds of grabbing a sports scholarship are a lot smaller than the odds of a bored kid turning to drugs. University of Texas has 50,000 students ... and perhaps 400 athletes. This is not a very convincing line of reasoning.

Drug abuse is a complex phenomenon which has many antecedents and correlates. I used the word "odds" for a reason, because the causal relationship is not deterministic. Winnowing out one factor would seem to be pretty difficult, which is why what I offered is an opinion -- one which you clearly don't share, and that's fine. But -- while you're entitled to your opinion, you're not entitled to assign me mine for your ease of argumentation.
