Not sure if we see eye to eye on the mental illness issue. I do believe religion is a fantasy delusion but does not qualify as a "mental Illness". All sorts of delusional people exist in our society and are not considered mentally ill.
As for passed from generation to generation, not genetically but culturally. You are not born with religion but born into religion. Environment, not genetics.

Thanks for the warm welcome! Lol okay maybe I went a little too far with the mental illness theory. I realize that religion isn't mental illness. I guess what I meant to say is that its just brain washing. Mental illness is a very real thing and people with mental illness should not be be classified with religious folks, because people with mental conditions can not help it, religious people can lol. I fully concur with your statement "You are not born with religion but born into religion. Environment, not genetics." Couldn't have said it better myself!
