For me atheism has always been a logical choice rather than a moral or emotional one. I believed and went to church as a kid, but I was a late bloomer for knowing Santa wasn't real because no one told me and I just asked my mom when I was 9 or 10 and she told me the truth. About 6 months later I realized I could use the same reasoning for the bible and it gave me chills, so from that point on I was really an atheist. Keep in mind I called myself "agnostic" for the longest time after that because I wanted to believe something was out there, but knew my wanting it or not doesn't change the reality. Now I just don't play the psychological bullshit games and just call it for what it is....I'm atheist.

I never really considered anything else but science as a valid reason to be atheist, but you bring up some good emotional and moral points I say.......atheists are probably morally more pure then too ironically.
