Wondering who else plays this and what people think of it.
My (short) ramble of a review below:
I got it on sale on the PS store, and I must say, after all the bashing it's received from reviewers I'm pleasantly surprised at just how fun it is. When I've seen reviews of this game they always seem to focus on what the game does wrong, but say relatively little on the many things it does fantastically fucking right.
The maps, even though they're only based on 4 planets (which does seem like a small amount) are actually really varied and fun to play. I think the overall design of the maps are brilliant and each of the 4 planets are done real justice.
The heros are great. There's only 6 of them sure, but each one actually feels unique and like a real badass. Even Princess fucking Leia.
I've seen criticism for the guns. I don't really understand it. I think they're all pretty varied and feel quite unique. I also think the card system for powerups/equipment is quite inventive and even though on the face of it, it's simple, it works really well for this kind of game.
Saying all that, I do understand the main criticisms (the cancer that is EA, basically). But actually playing the game is undoubtedly fun, and ultimately I don't much care after playing it that it supposedly doesn't have as much content as what the PS2 games did.
I'm sure the DLC will add more heros, maps, guns etc. It does suck that the game is so obviously geared towards this bullshit EA policy of "keep paying", but knowing it's a blast to play I actually don't mind. Ofcourse, there's a line, so we'll have to see how EA price it all.
The single player/co-op is a little lacking. But I can honestly say that this is about par for what shooters offer nowadays anyway.
One more thing I thought I'd miss would be the ability to fight against bots in custom battles, but IMO there's enough in the multiplayer arena that I don't find myself thinking about it. Usually I'm a single player gamer but with a game like this I don't mind that everything seems geared towards the multiplayer, in some ways it's what you should expect.
Overall I'd give it a solid 8/10. The only real thing that lets the game down is the fact that you know EA are holding more back. But the game itself is pretty damn good as it is IMO.
Did I also mention how astoundingly fucking gorgeous this game is?
Like really. Some serious graphics.
