If I were forced to choose, either inflationary or cyclic (although accelerating expansion doesn't seem to imply a cycle) make the most sense to my admittedly limited imagination. Discussion of such non-falsifiable ideas places this topic in the realm of philosophy; an area in which I am self-proclaimed to be mediocre...

The possibilities are fascinating to ponder.
