So difficult...I want to list films that either simply had a good compilation of songs/artists on the soundtrack,
or just a really good Original Score,
and therefore skip over a long list of obvious ones:
like Musicales, (especially Musicales about Music....like Hedwig and the Angry Inch)
or rock operas like Quadrophenia or Tommy,
or semi-autobiographical fiction, like The Wall by Pink Floyd,
or films that are centred around a music scene or movement, or pay direct homage to such,
like Summer of Sam, or Detroit Rock City;
And there are biopics and documentaries, of course,
like The Doors, La Vie En Rose, Ray, Walk The Line, Sid & Nancy, Coal Miner's Daughter,
Ramones: End of the Century...
So, independent of those, here's a list, off the top of my head:
Bram Stoker's Dracula
The Ninth Gate
Eyes Wide Shut
From Hell
Crazy Stupid Love
The Fugitive
Fight Club
Secretary
Chocolat
Mr. and Mrs. Smith
Elizabeth
Natural Born Killers
Stigmata
Sherlock Holmes
Rainman
Thelma & Louise
High Fidelity
Grosse Pointe Blank
Julie & Julia
Trainspotting
The Royal Tenenbaums
Pulp Fiction
The Crow
Lost Highway
Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain
...and pretty much any original score done by Trent Reznor, like The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
I'm sure there's many, many more I will think of later, but that's a good start, I think
EDIT:
My apologies...I just realize this thread is for VIDEO GAME soundtracks, and I am no authority on those.
But I'll leave this here since I went to the trouble of compiling it.
I am not a gamer....I will only occasionally play a silly little flash game online, when I am bored.
If it makes my post any more valid, I like the music on this one:
