Yes, I'm agnostic about it too So I was speaking in assumption.
And it's the people who misunderstand it who I'm talking about. We might not feel the need to go out and kill someone just because we don't believe in free will, and most people wont either, but some will. Some already do. So for now, I will assume that free will does not exist. But that will not change how I actually feel. Just because I don't believe in free will wont mean that I'll become a robot and try to resist at all possible moments. I'm just going to go on living.
I think some people want to believe in free will because it gives them a sense of importance. Remember the Matrix? Neo didn't believe in fate because he didn't like the idea that he wasn't in control of his life. I think what Neo believes is what most people believe. Some people feel like their life would be a lie if they didn't choose to get where they got. They want to feel like they're responsible.
Whatever we all believe, life goes on And there will always be people on both sides to argue their case.
And I think you've used implications correctly We don't believe in free will and to us it's simply a choice, a point of view. To some people, they think it means that everything is lost, that there's no point in living, and so on. Some people are so self-absorbed that the idea that they're not in entire control of their life frightens them to the extreme.
