I studied a little bit of the other religions, not too much.

But most of them are polytheistic and I don't believe in multiple gods, trinities, nor idol-worshipping. So, that's why Islam made the most sense to me.

I'm pretty sure that my parents would not punish me severely. They never forced me to pray nor read the Quran. I never went to an Islamic school either. I learned about Islam at home by myself. My parents are not as strict as many other Muslim parents and even if I didn't believe in Islam then I don't think I would be afraid to tell them because I don't want to lie to them.

As for the rules for leaving Islam, there's no death penalty if it doesn't involve any type of a treasonous act against a Muslim country or a Muslim population.

The ruling on killing someone just for leaving Islam was never established during the time of the Prophet Muhammad. The death penalty was only imposed by the Prophet when apostasy was combined with a treasonous act, meaning that an apostate would betray or violently rebel against the Muslim state and thereby endangering the safety of the people.

2:7 Allah hath sealed their hearing and their hearts, and on their eyes there is a covering. Theirs will be an awful doom.

"This does not mean that their rejection of the Truth is a consequence of God sealing their hearts. What is meant is that God sealed their hearts and ears as a consequence of their decision to reject the fundamentals of faith, of their deliberate choice of a path divergent from that charted out by the Qur'an. Anyone who has worked for the dissemination of the Truth often finds that if, after full consideration, a person decides against a doctrine, his mind begins to move in a completely opposite direction so that he fails to appreciate anything that is explained to him. His ears become deaf, his eyes are blinded to the merits of that doctrine, and one gets the distinct impression that the person's heart has indeed been sealed." - Islamic Studies

LOL..the sky is solid like a canopy, and water pours out of it. The people who wrote the Quran thought the Earth was flat and the sky was solid.

The sky is certainly not described as "solid" in the Quran. By giving just a little bit thought, you'll know that this is only being used as a metaphor (i.e. the sky being like a canopy). Why? Because the sky functions as a canopy by blocking the harmful radiations from the sun. What we call sky is actually an atmosphere which has layers of gases. The atmosphere contains an ozone layer which contains relatively high concentrations of ozone (O3). This layer absorbs most of the sun's high frequency ultraviolet light which is potentially damaging to life on earth. So, in that sense, the sky acts like a canopy.

Secondly, it doesn't say anywhere in the Quran that the earth is flat. It only says that the earth has been spread out like a carpet so that "you may go about therein, in spacious roads" (71:20), which is the next verse. The point of the verse is to convey the graciousness of the one who put man on earth. God laid out the earth in a gracious manner so that we can travel on it without falling off. "Spread out" basically means that the surface of the earth will always be spread out in all directions (at any location on the earth). It is spread out in every direction you look. You can travel across the surface of the earth forever in any direction you want but you will never hit an edge or a wall to stop you from going further. So, this indicates that the earth cannot be flat.

All the other kids from other religions who grow up to be the same religion as their parents will say the same thing you do...and you will say they are wrong. They will say the same too you. Your religion is mostly chosen for you at birth by your parents. Very few people who fool for religion are even more stupid to do so when they are older after escaping indoctrination from their parents when they were young.

One time I did escape from the indoctrination. I stopped believing in God, Islam, and every other religion. I even wrote 50 or so different reasons during class time in high school on why my religion is like a fairy tale. But 2 or 3 years later, I returned to being a believer and I felt that my faith was stronger than before. So, why did I return to Islam and not some other religion if I had already become an atheist?

I felt that it happened naturally. After my faith was restored, I was more eager to learn about the teachings of Islam which re-inforced my faith even more.
