It's strange to me to hear older people these days pine for the 'Good Old Days' stereotyped in the sorts of programs these same people watched as kids in the '50s. After all, they were the generation that broke away from all of that in the first place. They hated the conformity. They felt stifled. They yearned for freedom. Now many of them want to return the rest of us to the fantasy world they saw on a screen decades ago, an America that was true only if you were white, male, straight, and relatively privileged financially.
Blacks? Fuck you. Hispanics? Fuck you. Native Americans? Fuck you. Women? Fuck you. Gay? Fuck you. Jew? Fuck you. Muslim? Fuck you. Atheist? Fuck you.
The Good Old Days indeed . . . .
Fucking Boomers. Never satisfied. Like Carlin said, everything was handed to them on a silver platter, and they took it all: sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll. Then there came a point when they became self-righteous (well, they were always obnoxiously self-righteous, but they became old and obnoxiously self-righteous), and they want to deny everyone else the cultural freedoms they enjoyed, but only after they sold out and pissed it all away.
