What a difficult decission to make between my argument and yours. Both can do a good job, but which one is better for the sake of this discussion?

Show them a list of the building blocks and their properties, or show them how to come to a logical, scientific conclusion?

Each would lead to the other eventually. Perhaps in this situation both would be equally wise choices.
